According to Wikipedia, the description for genealogy is:
“Genealogy (from Greek: γενεά, genea, “generation”; and λόγος, logos, “knowledge”) is the study of families and the tracing of their lineages and history. Genealogists use oral traditions, historical records, genetic analysis, and other records to obtain information about a family and to demonstrate kinship and pedigrees of its members. The results are often displayed in charts or written as narratives.”

Believe it or not, there are some people that do not even recognize the word “genealogy”. In conversations with people, if it appears they don’t have a clue, I will often times then remark about “finding my roots” or “constructing my family tree”. Generally, they usually then understand.
It really doesn’t matter what you call it, researching to find out “where you came from” is the ultimate goal.
Not only will you find resources here like genealogy books, genealogy software and other tools, but you will also find an on-going sharing of information that pertains to researching and building your family tree. It will continue to grow over time into what we hope will be a very useful genealogical resource for everyone.
Keep an eye on the right hand side of the page for the latest posts and don’t be afraid to search for what you are interested in. From time to time, you will find interesting facts gleaned from our own research. Everything from little known historical facts to Associations you might not even be aware of. We might even throw in tidbits about “finding money” you are entitled to but didn’t know existed. Something to always consider while doing your research.
